The dispute centered around Apple's opposition to our EU trademark application for "APELLA GAMES," a name inspired by the ancient Greek assembly, representing democracy and unity. Contrary to Apple's claims of potential confusion and unfair advantage, our intention was always to honor our Greek Cypriot founders' heritage and embody the spirit of collaboration and community in our games.
Under the expert guidance of Yanna Raevskaya, head of the legal department at Prospectacy Ltd, we successfully demonstrated the distinctiveness and legitimacy of our brand name. On December 14, 2023, the EUIPO Board of Appeal dismissed Apple's appeal, upholding our position and reinforcing our trademark rights. Further cementing this victory, on January 18, 2024, Apple withdrew their appeal regarding our logo, finalizing the opposition board's decision in our favor.
